Allow me to introduce myself: I'm Dr Zukiswa Mqeke-Mashele, fondly known to my patients as Dr Zuki. I am a seasoned family medical doctor who firstly loves God and loves people. I look forward to taking care of you and your whole family. Let's get to know each other & walk this journey together.
About Me
I trained for my bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBChB) degree at the highly esteemed University of Pretoria, but prior to that, I completed a science degree in human physiology and psychology at the University of Johannesburg (formerly RAU). I then went on to further my studies in psychology and completed a BSc degree with honours, in psychology. My studies (which also include a diploma in nutrition (I'm an academic foodie)), have helped me merge my academic pursuits in each consultation, giving me a truly unique signature & approach to medicine. This makes each consultation well- rounded, tailor-made and patient-centered. An unwavering dedication to my patients and exceptional clinical care is what I strive for.

Thorough Medical Consultations
I include free blood pressure checks in every consultation as well as free blood sugar and urine analysis for each diabetic patient. These quick & basic screening tools are often omitted by some practitioners, but are crucial in picking up new onset of chronic disease or for being alerted to a potential emergency. Urine analysis is extremely useful in diagnosing a number of issues such as early signs of kidney disease, dehydration or diabetic emergencies.

Mental Health Matters
Owing to my qualifications in psychology & my experience as a senior counsellor at the South African Depression & Anxiety Group, I expertly & seamlessly integrate counselling principles into each medical consultation. This allows me to discern and rule out the impact of psychological stress as a possible cause for clinical symptoms. Research tells us that the mind is a powerful entity, and as such, it can greatly affect our immune system and subsequently, our health. Often, even the most insightful patients are not always aware of this dynamic & well-meaning clinicians are usually not adequately equipped to recognize this oftentimes subtle dynamic either.

Each consultation, whether it be for a chronic or acute medical condition is conducted with utmost respect, dedication, thought and attention to detail. I see patients of all ages from newborns to the elderly and due to my vast experience as a senior medical doctor within the state sector, I am an astute clinician and well versed in patient management. When necessary, I also discuss and refer for specialist treatment via a carefully selected referral network. For the sake of optimal patient care, it is important for a clinician to admit when a condition warrants specialist care. I have been exposed to & treat a wide variety of medical conditions and I have a particular passion for (but not limited to) chronic medical conditions such as HIV, epilepsy, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, asthma, the early detection of cancer and pain management- these are common conditions which are increasingly & pervasively on the rise.
The practice is part of a growing multidisciplinary team of top tier clinicians. Our practice is contracted to medical aids & we also accept debit/credit card payments on site.
